At the moment, we're still suffering from a severe gas crunch. If you are headed into town for faire next weekend, fuel up before you get here. So far the "huge" shipment of gas on Friday hasn't helped any.

Weather for the weekend is predicted in the low 70s.

This has been a report from your friendly news & weather kitten. Updates posted this week as situations change.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled LJ.

My previous post was not directed at any specific person on my flist.

It was born of a long, frustrating day spent banging my head against a brick wall (aka the DA at the office) and annoyance at something someone I don't know wrote about.

On the drive home, I realized two things: I have amazing, remarkable friends and that I really, really don't want to discuss politics-- or any subject relating to politics today. Thus why the other post vanished.

If you haven't made a reservation for CRF Invasion hotel, you may want to do so. I made my reservation today and there were only a few rooms left.
I need a pattern for a flat cap. Something with simple, detailed instructions is best, lest I end up with the haberdashery equivalent of a three-armed chemise.

I'm not much of a Zionist, but I love this icon.
Cooking Edition:

Chicken thighs are on sale this week. I love dark meat chicken. win=win, right?

Except that I don't have any ideas for how to cook 'em. I'm *not* interested in deboning them before cooking as it's more work than I'm interested in doing.

I don't have a grill.

So, what should I do with a mess o'bone-in chicken thighs?
Good night, Randy.

The world is a better place because you.

I'm a better person because of you.

Thank you for teaching so many of us how to live.

A brain teaser to provide a moment or two of distraction. First correct answer wins... oh, I dunno, a cookie? Open to negotiations, of course.

Here we go. . .  )
so far--

Finding the last Christmas card I sent to my grandmother. I knew she was dying to lung cancer and what I wrote in her card was from my heart.

She was gone a little over a month after that Christmas, with me beside her, holding her hand. If that is the only good thing I ever do in my life, I think I'll be okay.

Since she died I've felt bad, thought that perhaps I hadn't said the things I should have, but finding the card reminds me that I did have a chance to say what I wanted to.

I still miss you, Nana.
regarding yesterday's conspiracy. . .

I had the money to pay for yesterday's massage tucked away in my checking account.

Today I took that money and made a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank. That paid for more than 385 meals.

When I enjoy the second massage I'll be making a donation to the MS group and Avon.

Again, my thanks.

PS--

I would like everyone's snail mail address so that I can send you a note. Please?

It was the most wonderful massage I have ever had.

I'm relaxed and calm and peaceful in addition to awed and grateful and amazed, blown away and stunned.

My ankle also feels better. The Massage Goddess worked on it. She also suggested some things to do to help with the swelling, all of which I will try tomorrow.

Thank you.

Paltry words to describe what I want to express, but they are all I've got at the moment.

Thank you. I'll try to find some additional words in a moment, but first, for those who aren't aware. . .

I was the target of a conspiracy this evening. This wasn't just any conspiracy, either. It was swiftly planned and flawlessly executed, with co-conspirators ranging as far north as Maryland and as far south as Florida.

I arrived at Serenity Spa just a smidge after five o'clock and met Diane, the Massage Goddess. She explained a few things and escorted me to the massage room.

A little over an hour later, the conspiracy struck. Diane explained how to turn on the small table light, telling me that I would want more light as she was instructed to give me these-- paper rolled and wrapped in a gold ribbon and a bow, also wrapped with ribbon. She suggested I might want to start with the scroll.

I wasn't too curious. I figured the scroll was a "thank you for being a new client" note and the box probably contained a coupon for a few dollars off on my next service. I dressed and then removed the ribbon from the scroll.

And promptly started to cry. No, not a few tears welling up in my eyes- I was bawling, damnit! I read the scroll four times before the words started to sink in.

text is back here for the curious )

I gathered up my stuff with shaking hands and went out to the front desk, still crying. Diane gave me a huge hug and a handful of tissues. I mopped my face and tried to stop the waterworks. Then I handed Diane the gift certificate and stared at her when she shook her head. "No, that's for NEXT time."

More tears. Cried the whole 45 minute drive home.

So here I am, trying to figure out just how to thank everyone for their generosity, thoughtfulness... and I'm still stunned. I just can't believe how wonderful y'all are.

I don't know what I did to deserve such wonderful friends. I just know I'm lucky as hell to have you.

The scroll is going to the office with me and after I make a few copies of it I'm going to frame it and put it up in my cube to remind me of how terrific my frembly is.
Can't believe I forget this!

Had to turn off the radio on the way home from work. The local country station was doing nothing but some mock news reports on a zombie uprising. ~rolls eyes~

By the time I got home, I was starved! I grabbed a bite from with a neighbor.
On my way out, I ran into Mike. (For those who've lost their scorecard: Mike is the arrogant ass at work who told me I better bring my A game the day he came to faire). Well, he's cute enough in 'danes and today he was wearing a sleeveless tank. Yummmmmmm.

We all know how friendly and body-easy we rennies are, right? So there he is, running his mouth to me (I have no idea what he was saying. He's purty, but damn, man, don't speak!) and well... I had to gnosh on his shoulder.

He screamed like his knickers were on fire, I swear.

Guess he doesn't like teeth, eh? ~impish grin~ Some guys don't.
Goofing off and surfing the web and found there's a Friday the 13th internet joke floating around about zombies. Zombies. Geez.

I can't concentrate on anything this afternoon. There's this buzzzzzzing in my brain.

Maybe I need to go outside and grab a bite.
My ankle is still bothering me. I thought it was starting to heal as I was walking on it okay yesterday, but today I'm back to doing that slow, awkard, George Romero shamble.

There must be several other klutzy people here this week as I saw a few folks shuffling down the hall earlier.

Curious.
